Our Swedish colleagues invited us to join the SRM in Uppsala. Huy from Leuven and Quinten and Aurélie from Ghent went to the beautiful campus which is located in the middle of nature (those autumn colours...)
Here's the report:

On the first day, we visited the Tempel Brewery, where the brewer himself told us everything we wanted to know about how he brews his sour beers. And, of course, he let us taste a few of them, even one that wasn't on the shelves yet! After our lunch break, we had a brainstorming session about No food waste, Sustainable food and Reducing single-use plastic, which we will implement in our future activities as much as possible.

On day 2 we had a first brainstorming session about our new number one IAAS project. We chose a specific one and worked it out step by step the next day. Stay tuned to read what it’s all about…
In the afternoon 2 trainers (from Slovenia and Croatia) taught us stress management strategies, both for personal use as for use in our local IAAS committee! In the evening we had our Development fund, where all countries take part in an auction: they bring some items (for example we took an IAAS Ghent T-shirt with us and some Belgian beers) which are then sold to whoever bids the most, and all of that money goes to the fund. This is used to help people who don’t have the money to go to international events, so they can join all the interesting fun too!

On Friday we went on a Viking Tour (after finishing the exciting new project as we said above), where one of the Swedish students showed us around some Viking graveyards and statues, and told us the most interesting facts about them! In the afternoon our two trainers helped us get better at teamwork in an amusing way: we had to split into 2 groups of approximately 12 people each and finish a whole list of tasks… good thing we could be inventive because nobody felt like transporting ice-cold lake water with their shoe. And then… the moment we’d been waiting for: the Trade Fair where every country brings/ makes their typical dishes and drinks (we brought Neuzekes, Luikse waffles, Belgian beers and we made oven-baked potato wedges), with a big party afterwards. You can imagine the sleepy eyes the next morning…

On our last day, we visited the beautiful city of Stockholm. Although it was still quite cold, the sun was finally out and we enjoyed amazing views. In the evening the Swedish committee prepared us a nice and cosy dinner, or at least until the Vikings came in and scared the **** out of us all. Apparently, there is a student group that’s responsible for this kind of typical cultural stuff, no Swedish tradition is unknown to us anymore!
We are grateful for this experience and all the amazing memories. We’re already looking forward to our next international event and hope that all of these great people will be present at our Belgian exchange week, next year!
